Stjörnubíó

Originally built on two floors. Opened September 30, 1949 with David Niven in “Bonnie Prince Charlie”. Screened not only International films such as “Rock Around the Clock”, “The Bridge on the River Kwai”, “The Guns of Navarone”, and “Flåklypa Grand Prix”, but also Home grown films such as “Björgunarafrekið við Látrabjarg” (which was the third movie screened there), “Morðsaga”, “Eins og skepnan deyr”, “Börn náttúrunnar”, and “Ingaló”. Hjalti Lýðsson was the manager of this theatre from its opening in 1948 until his death in 1976, in which his family continued to run the cinema, which had a contract with Columbia Pictures, based in the United States.

It was burned twice: On January 18, 1954, which later reopened after several weeks of repairs, and on December 18, 1973, when the showroom was burned down. It reopened as a one floor cinema on June 8, 1974 before the second floor was rebuilt and reopened in 1982. It was closed on February 28, 2002 and was demolished in October of the same year.
