This theatre appears on the 1911 Sanborn, on the western end of a large block of stores constructed between 1896 and 1905. As constructed, this was a very wide single story building constructed of local stone, with a wooden front covered in tin.
The 1905 map shows a bowling alley in this section, with the remainder used by a hardware store. The Photoplay Theatre was listed in the 1914-1915 edition of American Motion Picture Directory.
This theater was not successful, and the 1917 map shows ‘Music & Undertaking’ here. Sometime around 1920, judging by the architecture, the facade was replaced with brick. This continued in retail use for many years, but appears to be either vacant or perhaps an office for the title company next door.
