Lomo Theatre #1

Charles Lohmann and Henry Paul Mollere took over a handsome East Thomas Theatre in April of 1909 in downtown Hammond that appears to have been going by the name of the Casino Theatre. They changed it to the New Electric Theatre for three months before deciding on the name Lomo Theatre fusing the operators last names of Lo-hmann and Mo-llere. The Lomo Theatre utilized Edison projectors and did brisk business while apparently vanquishing the competing Alpha Theatre and the original Electric Theatre.

Dr. Lohman and Mollere, along with Victor “Vic” Mollere, created the Lomo Theatre Circuit. It would officially begin in May of 1912 with the Hammond flagship location and additional venues already open in Mississippi including Hattiesburg, Laurel, Jackson, McComb, Vicksburg, Natchez, and Brookhaven. Expansion included Yazoo City in Mississippi and likely other locations.

In 1914, Mollere declared bankruptcy and many of the Lomo locations are sold to new operators between 1914 and 1916. However, Lohman and Vic Mollere operated the Hammond Lomo - Lomo #1 - to the end of a 15-year lease closing early in 1924. Both appear to exit the film exhibition space. The Lomo Theatre #1 was returned to retail use for the Safaya Brothers, the next lessee on the building.
