Built on the site of the Opera House, later Kootenai Theatre which was destroyed by fire on January 20, 1948. The Dome Theater opened on June 29, 1948, only five months after the ground for the new theatre was broken. The opening movie was “Give My Regards to Broadway” starring Dan Dailey. All seating is on a single floor.

I am the owner of the Dome Theater, The Libby Drive In Theater, and the Lincoln Theatre in Troy. Photos and history can be found on our website at www.dometheater.tripod.com I also have extensive history information on the Lincoln Theatre that has not yet been posted to the website. The Lincoln Theatre (built in 1920) has been rennovated. The Libby Drive In (built in 1954) has been completely restored to its original form. The Dome Theater (built in 1948) is being slowly rennovated. In fact, the seats in the Dome Theater are still the original seats from 1948 and are quite uncomfortable. Where can I find a theater that is closing and may want to get rid of their seating?

Seating in 1948 was 594. The building was constructed to replace the old Opera House, later called the Kootenai theater, which burned to the ground. Here is a 1948 photo:

Architects were Lathrop and Gillam.
The Dome Theater may have to close if a solution is not found to the problem of financing a transition to digital projection: View article
Opened on June 29, 1948 with Dan Dailey in “Give My Regards To Broadway” (unknown if extras added). What’s very strange about its opening is that they don’t allowed children under the age of 12 only on its opening day.
Current function is first-run, but performing arts are also added in rare occasions.
