Newspaper ad, Scenograph Theater, Gresham, Oregon 1911

The Scenograph Theater was located on Main Street in Gresham, Oregon from approximately 1910 through to the early sound era. Advertisements for the theater can be found in back issues of the Gresham Outlook, from 1911 to 1915. In 1916 advertisements for Smith’s Theater commenced. Likely, this was the same theater, as Claude Smith was the manager of the Scenograph. He is listed in many issues of the Outlook among area businessmen, designated as “Motion Picture Show”.

According to the Gresham Historical Society, when the Gresham Theatre opened on Powell and Roberts, it drove the smaller theater (the Scenograph/Smith’s) out of business, as it could not compete.
