Melody Drive-In and Lunch Counter

Located in Mamers, to the west of Lillington, NC. The Melody Drive-In Theatre and Lunch Counter opened on April 18, 1951 with Marie Windsor as “Dakota Lil”, a Three Stooges short “Crime on Their Hands”, and a Popeye cartoon. Located eight miles west of town, the MDITALC was beaten to the punch by a month when the Lee (later Cruise-In) Drive-In opened in March of 1951. The Melody Drive-In and Lunch Counter was operated by Ernest Clark.

When it reopened for the season of February 13, 1953, the Melody Drive-In Theatre had a new and larger screen. Unfortunately, absolutely no details were provided on whether the size of the Lunch Counter was expanded or not. It soon went out of business and was demolished.
