The Family Drive-In Theatre was wedged into a cloverleaf highway in Bassett Forks, Virginia, just over 10 miles away from Martinsville. The Family Drive-In launched August 5, 1948 with Veronica Lake in “Hold That Blonde” supported by the documentary, “The Fighting Lady.”
The Family Drive-In operated to the end of a 25-year lease in 1973. The ozoner was demolished when an improved cloverleaf for Highway US 220 and Virginia 57 was built in 1974. (The address provided is just outside of the cloverleaf and is used for mapping purposes.)
