Electric Theatre

This Electric first appears on the 1911 Sanborn, in an old two-story stone commercial building, which seems to have been constructed between 1885 and 1890. The 1905 map shows this space as a hardware store.

The rear of the building was originally wood with metal cladding, but by 1917, it had been redone in stone. The theatre was a ground floor operation, and there was likely no balcony. In 1920 it was remodeled into a J.C. Penny store.

Later maps are unavailable, but this building and its neighbors at 101 through 109 were long ago demolished for a dull little bank and drive-through.

Small correction to the history. Based on my photos from 2010, this building was remodeled around 1920 as a J.C. Penney. It was vacant when I saw it, and became the eastern addition to the bank. 107-109 became the drive through portion. This happened sometime before 2014. I can’t figure out exactly when.

I’ve added the 1917 view. In 1911, the section past the faint line through the building was vacant storage, so the theater was significantly expanded.

The Electric was the only theater listed at Beloit in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory.
