Situated in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, the Union, which opened in 1908, is one of the oldest continually operating cinemas in Germany. Its original seating capacity is now unknown, but in 1949, following repairs to its bomb-damaged ceiling and improvements to its sound system and ventilation, its capacity was given as 575-seats. In 1952 the foyer was redesigned and, in the mid-1980’s the Union was twinned, with separate cinemas in the former orchestra and balcony.
The Union was closed at the end of July 2008. Together with the associated Cinema (see separate Cinema Treasures Entry) it was acquired by Augsburg-based entrepreneur Franz Fischer. The Union reopened on 25th October 2012.
Seating capacities are 185 in Screen 1 (former orchestra) and 42 in Screen 2 (former balcony).
