Le Colisee Cinema is at the base of a 7-storey Streamline Moderne style apartment building. Le Colisee Cinema was opened in 1945. It is the oldest and most loved cinema in Bierut. It was closed around 1984 and has stood abandoned.
In April 2024 it was taken over by TIRO Association for Arts with plans to restore and reopen the cinema as the Lebanese National Theater in Beirut. Headed by actor/director Kassem Istanbouli and his team of young volunteers, completion of the renovation was expected to be completed in September 2024.
In October 2024, the Le Colisee Cinema was being used as a shelter for citizens protecting themselves from the bombardment by Israel which was devastating the city.
