Majestic Theatre

The Majestic Theatre opened April 27, 1907, in the northern section of the Howard & Taylor Block, a large two story Italianate brick commercial building, constructed sometime before 1883. The 1902 map shows a hardware store here.

The building was large enough that not much exterior work needed to be done, and tall enough that a balcony could be added. There was a stage at the rear for live performances.

The theatre was sold in 1908 to Joe E. Howard, who renamed it the Barrison Theatre, but by 1909 it had reverted back to the Majestic Theatre name.

The theatre was destroyed in a fire on March 28, 1915. By 1916, it was the site of a three story furniture store, but this entire block, once dense with substantial 2 to 6 story businesses and stores, was laid waste by urban renewal, and is now parking and an ugly office building.
