Cozy Theatre

A conversion of a general store that dated to before 1893. The store remained in operation at least through 1903. The Cosy Theatre was operating by 1911 when it appeared on a Sanborn.

As constructed, the building was a simple one-story brick box, not especially deep. At some point, the building was extended to the rear, and a new facade installed. This may have happened sometime in the 1920’s, judging by the style.

The lobby walls are covered in black and white tile, and the ticket booth is located indoors, a wise precaution in an area where the climate is inhospitable for much of the year.

The Cosy Theatre was still open in 1957. The theatre has been closed for many years, and sometime after 2010, the old-fashioned awning was removed. The doors have been repainted in recent years, and the building is in decent shape, although its usage is unclear.

The historical address would have been on Pearl Street, near the corner with Cherry Street, but at some point the street names were changed to the dullest possible.

Should be ‘Cozy’ within the listing, not ‘Cosy’, unless that was an aka.
