Glen Park Theater

The Glen Park Theater, (not to be confused with the Glen Theater), operated in Gary’s Glen Park neighborhood during the 1920’s. Glen Park stretches southward from 35th Avenue to the city’s southern edge. The theater was most likely located in a Broadway storefront close to 38th Avenue (Ridge Road). A 1926 Exhibitors Herald item notes that Metody Cozmanoff, who operated the Glen Park Theater and Lincoln Theater in Gary, had recently purchased a Link organ though it didn’t specify which venue got the organ.

The Glen Park Theater was later owned by Maurice Hankinson. Hankinson had managed the Gary Orpheum Theater for V.U. Young and was manager of the Eberson-designed Palace Theater when Young Amusement opened that theater in 1925. The 800-seat Roxy Theater located on Broadway near Ridge Road opened in December 1927, a few months before Film Daily reported in a July 1928 issue that the Glen Park Theater had closed. Although the Glen Park Theater was still listed in the 1931 edition of Film Daily Yearbook as a 250-seat silent movie theater.
