Fort Polk was established in 1941 and named for the Right Reverend Leonidas Polk. The fort trained thousands of soldiers for World War II in what was called the Louisiana Maneuvers. On its premises was a movie theatre used by soldiers. The theatre was one of a select few by the Army & Air Force Exchange Service to make the conversion to digital cinema presentations. It was still screening contemporary Hollywood titles in 2024.
