Built as the Star Theatre, a vaudeville house in 1904 with 700 seats. It began showing motion pictures about 1910. In 1915 the theatre was remodeled and seating was increased to 1,000. It was renamed Pickford Theatre, chosen to honor film actress Mary Pickford. By 1916 the name was changed back to Star Theatre. The theatre ceased operating in 1920, and was demolished in 1922 to make way for an office building.
This is not to be confused with the present day Star Theater, which opened in 1911 as a silent theater named Princess Theater (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

The modern address for this theater would be 801 SW Washington, at the corner of Park. The address was changed during Portland’s “Great Renumbering” of 1931-32.
