Located in the north Liverpool district of Kirkdale. The building had previously been used as a club and was converted into a theatre opening on 11th April 1887 with J.H. Milburn heading a variety programme. In 1888 the auditorium was enlarged to seat 650 which included a balcony and side-slips extending to the 26foot wide proscenium. Named the Westminster Music Hall it continued to present music hall & variety until 1908 when it was taken over by the Weisker brothers who converted it into the Westminster Hall Cinema In 1921 it was taken over by the W. Gordon’s circuit who also operated several cinemas in the Liverpool suburbs.
In 1932 it was taken over by H.E. Radum who also operated the nearby Roscommon Cinema (another former music hall). It was renamed Doric Talkie Theatre from 4th April 1932 when Walter Huston in “The Criminal Code” was the first sound film to be screened here. It was equipped with a RCA Photophone sound system. Soon renamed Doric Cinema, its life was cut short in 1941 when it was destroyed by German bombs.
