Thanks looks to be the westwood. Does anyone have pictures of it, especially the inside. Remember going there as a child. Remember the last time I went years and years later it had looked horrible. Tiles gone from the ceiling holes and stains all over the seats. Would love to have some old photos of this place and frame them.

The WESTWOOD THEATRE was built for $ 325.000 BY owner Matt Guidry and is widely praised in the trade as one of the most beautiful new theatres built in recent years in the south. It opened MARCH 26 1970 with FUNNY GIRL.
It had a 26-foot long snack bar 2 soda fountains and 2 candy cases.
Guidry installed 600 de luxe rocking chair seats forWESTWOOD PATRONS. Part of the $90.000 he spent on comfortably furnishing the theatre.
The Building was designed by Bob Schoeffler,of O'Rouke and Gossen a local Architectural firm. 2 parking lots ,one cement and the other shelled. it will hold 275 cars.
The first theatre manager was Paul Pierret who comes from the Local PAT THEATRE.

Glad to help you WESTWOOD THEATRE lovers out. BOXOFFICE APRIL 27, 1970.

As someone who was stationed at Fort Polk in 1966, I’m trying to track down the names of the three indoor Downtown Leesville moviehouses and the name of the drive-in that was fairly close to town and Fort Polk.

Can anyone help here? There are no theater listings on Cinema Treasures for Leesville theaters.

Thanks very much for any help.

I must assume that the ghost of the Westwood is its builder and operator, Matt Guidry. He was certainly Mr. Movie in Lafayette.

Opened on 26 March 1970, the Westwood was the last true movie house in Acadiana. The Westwood served “Cajun Country” for 34 years before finally succumbing to the advances of the state of the art multiplexes that have taken the U.S. by storm. It’s last show, “The Secret Window,” starring Johnny Depp played on 15 April 2004. Among other special events, the Westwood was home to the world premiere of the Powers Booth film Southern Comfort as well as regional premieres of “Drowning Pool”, “Charlie’s War”, and most recently “The Passion of the Christ”. A truly remarkable theatre many of its employees called a home away from home (such as myself). And don’t forget the Westwood ghost that had a peculiar habit of turning lights on and moving around out of the corner of your eye in the shadows.
