The triplex Sannomiya Cinephoenix is located on the 6th floor of Center Plaza East Building and was scheduled to open before the Great Hanshin earthquake happened across the area. That since halted theater operations due to major damage to places including some theaters in both Kobe and Osaka. The Sannomiya Cinephoenix opened its doors on December 23, 1995.

The theater did receive a couple of ownership changes. What’s different about some chains in Japan than in anywhere else is that it plays films by the chain instead of films being chosen from the area by manager.

In April 1998, the OS chain took over the Cinephoenix and was renamed “OS Cinephoenix”, but on September 1, 2006 due to the Miyako Shoji Holdings chain takeover, the Sannomiya Cinephoenix name made a return.

Unfortunately this did not last long, and the Sannomiya Cinephoenix closed for the final time on May 8, 2011.
