The Stone Theatre opened its doors in December 1947 by R.N. James with a 500 seating capacity featuring Altec Lansing’s “Voice Of The Theatre” sound system, native stone walls constructed by the Southern Theatre Construction Company, and interior decorations of wine, gold, and blue colors.
The Stone Theatre was last operated by former nearby Uptown Theatre operator Gene Thompson until closing for the final time in August 1966.
