During the erection of the Alice Drive-In in May 1952, construction came to a complete halt for months following nuisance and major concerns about the owners. Not just the theater’s unique location, but it also includes complaints saying that they planned to show movies during the day rather than at night like normal.
After all the arguing in court and the major exclamations and conclusions involving its nuisance, the Alice Drive-In opened its gates in May 1953, yes at night. It was operated by Max Reinhardt Exhibitors Service.
This unique drive-in allowed you to watch movies behind or in front of a view of Fiske Street.
The Alice Drive-In closed for the final time on July 27, 1976, with Charles Bronson in the 1972 film “The Mechanic”, Michael Chan in 1974’s “The Chinese Mack”, and the exploitation film “Lightning Swords Of Death” as a triple feature.
