The San Luis Obispo Tribune notes that in 1976 Jim Dee and Paul Karlen started screening films in the Savannah Dinner Theatre, located in the historic J.P. Andrews building. In 1979 Jim and Patty Dee opened the Rainbow Theatre in the same building.
The lineup included domestic, foreign, classic films and favorites such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Eraserhead”. In 2002 the Tribune remembered the 160-seat Rainbow Theater as having a loyal fan base before closing in July 1989.
In March of 1988, the Dees had acquired the building at 817 Palm Street, which became the Palm Theatre (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
