Rex Theatre (I)

The Star Theatre advertisement first appeared in the Rexburg Standard in May 1911. It was listed in American Motion Picture Directory 1914-15 as the Rex Theatre. The Standard reported on September 25, 1913, someone tried to burn the Rex Theatre down. They placed rubbish at certain spots, including the film room, and lighted it on fire. They ran away when investigated by Mrs. Cartier who ran the Idaho Hotel next door. A disastrous fire was averted and the city Marshal said three weeks later he knew who the fire-bug was but had insufficient evidence to convict.

On October 7, 1914, as reported by the Rexburg Standard, Mona Brown, a 22-year-old vaudeville actress, was accidentally shot at the Rex Theatre. An illusion act was in progress in which she was the Bullet Proof Lady. She also went by the name Mona Delayn and lived in Los Angeles with her four-year-old girl and mother. Her partner was arrested. and claimed he had been doing the act for nine years and this was in first accident. The Pocatello Tribune reported she died a few days later.

The Rex Theatre closed before the new Rex opening in February 1917 and in March an article said a drug store was going into the building occupied by the old Rex Theatre.
