Once operated by V.I.P Theatres.
The Marionaire opened its gates on June 16, 1948 with a one-day rerelease showing of Spencer Tracy in “Boomtown” along with the Tom And Jerry cartoon “Salt Water Tabby” and the Pete Smith Specialty “I Love My Wife, But”.
The Marionaire closed on September 5, 1983.
There does not appear to be any trace of an old neon sign left on the property.
The Marionaire was still hopping in the mid-seventies, when I was in high school. I think it hung on into the early eighties, a few years into the video era. The last movie I saw there might have been the great, little-known SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE.
On Google Maps, the address is 3072 W Delphi Pike Marion, IN. Today, the land is private property, but you can still see the faint outline of ramps in the fields north of the house. http://tinyurl.com/zedf2bc
