The Village Twin Theatres opened its doors on July 16, 1976 with Burt Reynolds in “Gator” at Screen 1 and Orson Welles with his narration in “Bugs Bunny Superstar” animated feature at Screen 2.

In late-1983, the theatre changed its name to Village Cinemas after two more screens were added bringing a total to four. United Artists took over the theatre in 1988.

The Village Cinemas was last operated as a $2 discount house and closed for the final time on June 29, 2000.

Boxoffice, Aug. 2, 1976: “Clyde Bolt, operator of the Viking and Fox Drive-In, Anderson, S.C., opened two new theatres here July 15. The duplex is called the Village 1 and 2 and is located in the shopping center by that name.”
