Haymond, Kentucky was a Coal Camp Community established in 1916 by the Elk Horn Coal Corporation. Although named for the Company’s President, Thomas Haymond, the Post Office designation was not the same and chosen for no obvious reason. This was apparently common practice for a long time. Although later attempts to correct these situations was made, the Haymond/Cromona was not.
The theatre was housed in a large town complex and operated by the Hampton Brothers who had a presence in other Coal Camp Communities. The Haymond Theatre was a smaller operation compared to some of its neighbors.
Apparently the theatre was popular despite its simplicity. Saturday children’s matinees were sell-outs.
The theatre appears to have survived into the 1950’s.

I have uploaded a painting of the Haymond Theatre and a 1971 photograph of the complex in which it was located.
