Built on the site of the Ritz Theatre, an African-American theatre, which was destroyed by fire on December 31, 1946 (it has its own page on Cinema Theatres). The Ford Theatre was opened on August 1, 1948. By 1952 it had been renamed Runnels Theatre. By 1955 it had reverted back to the Ford Theatre name but it was soon renamed Ritz Theatre and was still open in 1957.
