SEMO Theatre

The SEMO Theatre opened on September 27, 1947 with Eddie Dean in “West To Glory”. The late night ‘Owl Show’ on opening day was Rosemary La Planche in “Devil Bat’s Daughter”. I think, but there were notes on the “upcoming” SEMO Theatre two months prior but no advertisements were listed, so it might be opened that day.

Its closing date hasn’t been found yet, but was still in operation as late as 1966. By 2016 the building was in use as a Flash indoor market.

The SEMO Theatre was the only theatre remaining in Steele after the “second” fire destroyed the Steele Theatre nearby on January 25, 1963.

Uploaded a 1948 ad for the SEMO which appeared in the Steele Enterprise and an image of a 1951 page from the Enterprise in which ads for both the SEMO and Steele Theatres appeared.
