The cinema was opened as the Cinema Picture House on Christmas Day 1911, seating 633. In 1920, a major refurbishment saw the façade heightened and the addition of a balcony, raising the number of seats to 1,314. By 1934 it had been renamed Regent Cinema and was operated by the A.B. King circuit. Further refurbishments were carried out in 1937. It suffered damage from a fire in 1971 and renovations were carried out.

The Regent Cinema closed in May 1982 and was later demolished. An office block named Regent House now stands on the site.
