“The Rocketeer” was presented at the Century 6 (Auditorium #3) beginning on the film’s nationwide release date, Friday June 21, 1991.
December 22nd, 1995 grand opening ad as Carmike 11 (1st phase of 5 screens) in photo secton.
March 21st, 1986 grand opening ad as Century 6 in photo section.
This theatre closed last summer rather suddenly. Sounds like financial troubles of the owners.

Nova 10 opened in March 1986 as the Century 6, owned by Dubinsky Bros. Dubinsky owned most of the theatres in Des Moines at the time, including the Century 6, Capri, Eastgate I & II, Southridge 3, Valley 3, Fleur 4, Forum 4, and the River Hills/Riviera (with Fridley Theatres). Later, they would open the Westwood 6 and eventually the whole chain was sold to Excellence, which was later sold to Carmike.
According to a Des Moines Register article “Still Mad For The Movies” 5/18/1998 (Page 1T) by G.T. Melhus, this theatre was built (circa 1980s) by Dubinsky, sold to Excellence in 1988. It later became Carmike 11 circa 1990, then Nova 10 Cinemas circa 2002. 4353 MERLE Hay Road is street address.
Two auditoriums in this theater were THX certified for a period of time. Seen here, “The Mummy,” “Battlefield Earth,” and “George of the Jungle.” I believe that 5 or 6 auditoriums were equipped with digital sound. One of the more decent second run theaters I’ve attended.
