The Winthrop Theatre was opened in 1925. The 1950 Film Daily Year Book included the Winthrop Theatre, listed with 179 seats.
On September 24, 1955, Boxoffice reported that the Winthrop Theatre, “only motion picture house in the Methow Valley above Pateros, was destroyed by fire recently … The theatre was built 30 years ago by a Mr. Hatcher to provide the first theatre in this valley. It later was purchased by the IOOF for use as a lodge hall and for community affairs. Present owners are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nelson of Twisp, whose Twisp theatre burned two years ago.”
