Poole's Synod Hall Cinema

The Synod Hall was an imposing stone building built in 1875 and was designed by architects J. Murray Bell & F.T. Pilkington. It was initially used as a live theatre. From 1877 it was a UP Synod Hall. Poole’s Diorama shows were held in the hall from 1906. In 1928 it became a full-time cinema, operated by C.W. Poole’s Entertainments chain, based in Gloucester, England.

The auditorium had seating in stalls and a circle, which had side slips which were supported by pillars and extending to the 40ft wide proscenium. It was equipped with a RCA sound system.

Poole’s Synod Hall was closed on 30th October 1965 and it was demolished in March-April 1966.
