Central im Bürgerbräu is an arthouse movie theater located in the German city of Würzburg. Screening German and European arthouse movies, World Cinema and American indie films, documentaries, LGBTQ+ films and movies suited for children are part of the cinema’s brand. Here’s a selection of movies shown in the past: “Nomadland”, “Licorice Pizza”, “Parasite”, “Pope Francis: A Man of His Word”, “Pain and Glory”, “Never Look Away”, “Portrait of a Lady on Fire”, “Drive My Car”, “For Sama”.
The movie theatre started as the Central Programmkino (literal meaning: “Central Arthouse Cinema”) inside of a defunct public high school nearby the Würzburg Residence (an 18th century palace and UNESCO World Heritage Site which is one of the city’s landmarks) in 2010. The theatre moved from its rather central location - hence the name - to the so-called Bürgerbräu area in 2016 (literally: “Citizen Brew”): a former brewery which was then transformed into a cultural and creative hub.
The Central im Burgerbrau movie theatre is wheelchair accessible and consists of 3 screens and 315 seats plus 4 additional seats for disabled moviegoers.
