Worked at the Manchester Cinema for almost 9 years and enjoyed every second of it. Saw many transitions there over the years. From a 1st run house to 2nd run house to $1.00 house. Awesome memories!
After various managements and becoming a “dollar house”, theatre shuttered in March 1994.
I was an “original usher” there. Started at 14yrs old. The manager, Jim Barrow, thought I was 15. The very first movie there was Jerimiah Johnson, if my memory serves me correctly. It was a blast to work there. Wish I knew where all the other folks moved on to. Bill Weaver
… “shows,” now shoes. (sigh)
I saw many shoes here when it was a dollar theater and I could walk there from my mom’s house. There was a large grocery store in the same shopping center, so the place got a lot of traffic. I believe it is a dance studio now.
Martin Bloom Associates credited with this two-screen, 300 seats each, cinema.
And to say “Exorcist” ran a year is a “bit” exaggerated!
Venue(s) opened in March 1973.
