Bar-K Drive-In

Weleetkan drive-in fans must have been very happy with an announcement in 1957. Georgia Kelly with some assistance from husband, Edward J. Kelly, launched the Bar-K Drive-In one half mile north of Weleetka on the west side of Highway 75. Georgia announced a “surprise show” as the venue opened on August 2, 1957. (An earlier grand opening was scuttled due to sound issues.)

The opening film may have been “The Kettles in the Ozarks.” And if it wasn’t, surprise! The theatre appears to have had a very short life as the Bar-K did not advertise after its first listing.

US 75 & E1150 Road, Weleetka, OK is a possible address.

It is one half mile north of Weleetka on US 75. A 1980 aerial reveals nothing special about the property on the west side, save for what may be a faint outline of a drive in. Today, more homes are on the property.

Again, this is not proof, but that location does fit the description of the property.
