The 6-screen Beacon Cinema opened in 2009 in the Kinnell-Kresge Building, which was built in 1918 and previously was a S.S. Kresge 5 & 10 cent store. It was taken over by Phoenix Theatres in November 2019. The original terra cotta tile façade was restored. Architectural firm John G. Waite Associates oversaw the work, which was crucial for the revitalization of downtown Pittsfield. The town’s 1987 plan had called for a movie theatre to be downtown and funds were raised by government agencies and privately. This independent movie theatre with stadium seating screens first run movies & offers beer & wine.

Google Streetview of August 2017 shows the Beacon Cinema sign in place on the building. It took 2 ½ years to open?
2019 was when Phoenix took over the theater. Originally opened and operated by the same folks that operate the Triplex (actually a 4 screen) in Great Barrington MA
