Empire Cinema

In Heywood, Lancashire, the opening date of the Empire Picture House was 14th November 1912. There were 700 seats initially, which subsequently reduced to 650.

In the early-1930’s a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system was installed. By 1940 The Empire Cinema was owned by Frank E. Spring; it had closed by 1950.

It is not known what happened to the building. It was situated at the in the centre of Wood Street which was off Church Street; Wood Street appears to have been lost to area redevelopment, so it is assumed the former cinema has been demolished.
