The Clark Theatre was opened on August 23, 1941. Operated into the late-1950’s by Mr. Clark who also owned the Gray Theatre next door which had opened by 1940.

Per local Glen Haney who worked at both, by 1958 to cut costs the owner made the ticket booth and concession stand in the Clark Theatre serve both theatres.

The July 2, 1942 issue of Film Daily noted that Midwest Theatre Supply had recently installed new carpet in the Clark Theatre at Grayson, Kentucky.

The Clark Theatre had a very suspicious grand opening, which was August 23, 1941. During a late-night showing of the opening attraction that same evening, a film jam in one of the two projectors caught fire, destroying both projectors and burning 1200ft of film. The good news is that the entire theater itself was fireproof, and the theater reopened with new projection a few days later.

The Clark Theatre had a grand opening on the same evening its projectors caught fire. I wonder how many movie theaters started life with a tragedy or an incident like this.
