The Lyric Theatre appears on the 1919 Sanborn, in a modest two-story wood frame building with metal cladding.
The location had been an empty lot in 1909. The structure was your typical long, narrow box. It was probably fairly basic, and when Dr. Gibson constructed his eponymous theatre in 1921, in a purpose-built brick building with the added advantage of not having a rail line running down the middle of the street in front, its days were likely numbered. By 1931, the space is shown as retail.
The building remains on the 1948 map. Despite having a sizeable population and numerous large factories in town, downtown seems to have remained a rather scraggly collection of wood and brick structures with plentiful vacant lots. This whole block was demolished many years ago for a small mall and parking.
