Abe H. Record operated the Empress Theatre at least back to 1914 in downtown Deshler. He equipped the 400-seat theatre with sound equipment to stay viable. In 1933, the Deshler Amusement Corporation was formed to buy out the Empress Theatre. It was given a makeover and became the Ritz Theatre. Record would take on the Majestic Theatre in nearby Hebron. The Ritz Theatre may have moved to a new location in 1936 according to local sources. The theatre was taken over by Harold W. Struve & Fred Schardt and it was given a major refresh and relaunched with a grand reopening on October 14, 1949 with Lucille Ball in “Miss Grant Takes Richmond”. Two years later Struve would woulf buy the Majestic Theatre in nearby Herbon, NB. The Ritz Theatre was still operating in 1955 as a 260-seat house.
