Located in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire. The Carlton Cinema was opened on 15th March 1937. Designed by architect C.H. Wright of Aylesbury, it had a plain brick facade, broken by six windows with the ground floor extended toward the street. Interior decorations were by Allied Guilds of Birmingham. Beside the proscenium arch on both sides were imitation plaster organ grills coloured gold (no organ was ever fitted). The auditorium colour scheme was fawn & Nile green. Seating was provided for 320-seats in the stalls and 130-seats in the circle. It was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. It was independently operated for its entire life.
The Carlton Cinema was closed on 8th March 1961 with David Farrar in “Beat Girl”. It was converted into a bingo club. This closed in December 1963. The closed building suffered damage from a fire. It was announced that it would be refurbished and reopen as a luxury film theatre to be named The Out of Town, which would specialise in artistic films. The plan never happened and the Carlton Cinema was eventually demolished and a block of flats named Carlton Court was built on the site.
