Located in a working class neighbourhood of the port city of Abadan. Site of the Cinema Rex fire on 19th August 1978, set by an unknown group of 4, who doused the building in aircraft fuel and blocked the exit doors. There were over 700 patrons in the cinema watching the controversial political film “Reindeer” when the fire killed over 420 moviegoers. The fire triggered the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
