Boxoffice, November 24, 1956: “A. B. Hillyard, recently from Amarillo, Tex., is building a 300-seat theatre at Ouray to be in operation about the first of the year. It will be named the Chipita”.
Motion Picture Daily, June 10, 1959: “OURAY, Colo., June 9. – A. B. Hilliard, operator of the Chipeta Theatre here and the Nugget Theatre in Telluride, died of a heart attack while visiting in Denver".
Boxoffice, December 5, 1966: Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Wrye have purchased and are opening the Chipeta Theatre at Ouray".
Denver Post, Sept. 13, 2000: “The last movie theatre in Ouray closed 11 to 20 years ago - memories vary. What Ouray residents do recall for certain is that the Chipeta Theatre was drafty and cold and movies had to be viewed through a haze of cigarette smoke.”
