Star Theatre

Listed on the city of Wynnum Heritage Walk as the Star Picture Pavilion Memorial Site, the Star Theatre was opened in 1915 by the Green family. Located in Wynnum South, to the east of Brisbane.

The Star Theatre was destroyed by fire May 17, 1959, taking the lives of two local firefighters. The local press said the men were under a projection booth that came crashing down on them with no warning. It was later questioned why lives should be put in jeopardy to save an old building.

Another theatre, now gone and listed on Heritage Walk was the Empire Theatre on the Esplanade between Charlotte Street and Florence Avenue.

In 2020 it was announced by WynnumCentral that the city would again have a theatre in 2021, located below apartments in a new development on Berrima Street.
