Rhode Island Auditorium

Opened on February 18, 1926. Although primarily a sports arena and a venue for live entertainment, pageantries and other spectacles, there is evidence of this place having been used to show movie programs in 1941 and perhaps other years. Demolished in 1989, there remains only a parking lot in its place.

Over the decades I attended hockey games here (brought by our parish priest when I was an altar boy!). I also remember in the early 1960s a touring production of the Oberammergau Passion Play that was poorly done.

No more ice shows, rodeos, circuses, Scottish tattoos or Italian spectacles. It sucks.
