Located in the city centre, across the street from the Teatr Palladium. The Kino Relax was opened on 15th October 1970. The building designed by architect Zbigniew Waclawek, assisted by Andrzej Kaliszewski & Zbigniew Gasior housed a 650-seat cinema upstairs and a live theatre downstairs. Equipped for 70mm presentations, the screen was 19 meters high. It was a premiere cinema in Warsaw and screened premieres of “Star Wars” and Andrzej Wadja’s “The Promised Land. It was also home to the Warsaw Film Festival.
Unable to competed with the newly opened multiplexes, it was closed as a cinema in 2006. Plans were proposed to convert the building into flats, but in 2019 it was given a Heritage Listed building status. It has been refurbished and although closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is hoped to reopen in spring 2021 as the Scena Relax presenting live theatre, concerts and stand-up comedy.
