Sam Brooks of the Liberty Theatre was a 1922-1925 contributor to Moving Picture World’s “Straight From The Shoulder” where exhibitors gave their reviews of current movies.

It’s not known when this first Liberty Theatre in Hailey opened but an unnamed theatre was listed at this location on Sanborn Maps 1920. It could have been the Elite Theatre mentioned in Moving Picture World 1910 or the Star Theatre in 1914. Mr. Brooks is also lost out on a $100 bid to put movies in the Opera House because his competitor bid $125.

As announced in the Twin Falls Times News on April 12,1938, Sam Brooks was building a new 500 seat theatre across the street from his present Liberty Theatre. Sound equipment installed the previous year would be transferred to the new theatre. The old 400- seat Liberty Theatre closed when the new Liberty Theatre opened August 15, 1938.
