The Lake Avenue Theatre was a silent-era venue in downtown Gothenburg launching on May 19, 1922. Lake Hotel operator Jack S. Lewis opened the theatre in the Noble M. Anderson building. George W. Morgan took over the operation in 1925 when Mr. Lewis was struck by a train and killed in Cozad.
Morgan installed a new pipe organ. Also, the name of the theatre was changed to the Lake Theater. The Lake Theater closed with Bob Steele in “Laughing at Death” remaining silent movies on July 10, 1930. The building received a new front in 1931 and was converted to a grocery store.
