News About This Theater

Main Street Theater

This theatre sits at the edge of a traffic circle in Columbiana, Ohio. The single ticket booth is centered out front with the marquee above. A large script “C” is lit above. You enter through large double doors to either side of the ticket booth.

It opened April 1, 1953 as the Manos Theatre. It was purchased in February 2007 and completely renovated. The lobby and concession stand areas were expanded and a full liver performance stage was added.

A former retail space adjacent to the theatre was converted into a 40-plus seat café, named the Encore Café. Keeping with the original Streamline Moderne style, this theatre has been given a new life as a modern showplace for all kinds of entertainment.

Just met some friends who grew up with the Columbiana so they had many great theatre memories to share!

papibear: Great night photo with the lighted curved marquee and the big C above. My former hometown theatre had a curved marquee and they are so very unique.

For anyone that is interested, the Columbiana Cinema is undergoing renovations and they are selling their old theater chairs! I just pick up six today and they are in great shape!

Was there a theater in East Palestine? If so, what was the name of it?

Tragically, the theater sits empty 350 days a year. What a shame.
The extensive remodeling that was done a few years back was extraordinary.
Now if only the new owner could figure out how to make it a viable, ongoing business.

The Manos Theatre opened on April 1, 1953, according to this item from Motion Picture Daily of that date:

“Manos House to Open

“Columbiana. O., March 31. — George Manos' new 800-seat Manos Theatre here is set for opening tomorrow. This, the circuit’s 15th theatre, has been more than two years in building.”

Yes, as mentioned above, this was part of the Manos chain. Unfortunately, the theatre was closed when I passed by so I can’t much information. Three years ago it was only open Friday through Sunday
