New Market’s old town hall was constructed sometime in the late-1800’s with financial assistance from Charles Broadway Rouss, a New York businessman who wanted to sponsor cultural activities in towns his firm served.
The building is a three-story wood frame structure, with a small tower in the center. The fire department and town offices occupied much of the building, but the second floor was an opera house. Entry to the theater would have been by the central stair.
Both the 1915 and 1923 Sanborns have movies being shown in the opera house space, but this had apparently stopped by 1930, perhaps due to fire codes. The building later became storefronts and residences, but reopened on September 8, 2016 as the Rouss Center for the Arts.

The website has more information about the history of the building. http://rousscenter.org/
I added the website when I did the listing. This site has been very glitchy lately. I am also unable to add a photo.
