The 1911 Sanborn shows ‘Moving Pictures’ operating in a three-story brick building just off the square. This had been constructed sometime before 1887, and on the 1905 map this space housed a saloon. On October 30, 1915 it was renamed Colonial Theatre.
It was closed on December 27, 1929. by 1931 it had reverted to retail, possibly due to the construction of the Mayflower Theatre just to the west. Sometime before 2007, all the structures east of the Mayflower Theatre were demolished, and the corner is now a vacant lot ‘park’.

The Star was one of three movie theater listed at Troy in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory. No details were provided but the location West Main Street. Also listed were the Gem Theatre, S. Market Street, and the New Theatre, no location given.
This article about the Mayflower Theatre says that a Mr. Hunt opened Troy’s first movie theater in the fall of 1908. It was in a building next door to the one that would later be occupied by the Mayflower Theatre. That must have been the Star. The opening name was apparently Hunt’s Theatre.
The Gem and New must have fallen in the gap between the 1911 map and the 1923 one.
By the way, the article calls it Hunt’s theater with a small ’t', meaning just that he owned it. It also says that it was on E Main, which is obviously wrong if it was next to the Mayflower’s later location. It’s hard to tell if the front of the Mayflower building really is the heavily remodeled remains of the two very old structures it replaced. I would have assumed those were demolished.
Renamed Colonial on October 30th, 1915, and placed its last ad on December 27th, 1929. Grand opening ad posted.
